This is my post Mother’s Day detox.
I mean, seriously. I had more to drink in the three days of last weekend than I have in probably the last six months combined. And I drank little to no water. So my body is still reacting like a sodium-filled sausage casing. I need, like, a week to detox.
Anyway! Some Stuff I’ve Bought Lately!

I have been absolutely inspired as of late by Elizabeth’s attempt to make her wardrobe into a “uniformed” environment. By picking a color palette that she likes and cuts that flatter her, she has a goal of owning very few clothes, but owning the RIGHT clothes for endless options. I love that. She recently reviewed regular crewneck tshirts and gave the Gap Essential Crewneck favorable reviews, so I decided to take the plunge too. IT’S PERFECT. My color palette is grey, black, white, and jewel tones, so I bought the above tshirt in black, grey, and white. The white is perfect with a nude-colored bra, but not so thin that it requires a cami. They are cut in a flattering shape against the body, but not too tight. All in all, LOVE.

Speaking of Gap, I also bought this skirt. Which, I know. A bit pricey for a skirt, no? A little bit, for me anyway. But the Striped A-Line Maxi Skirt has been a GODSEND and I might go back and get one in a multitude of colors. You can see that I stuck with my predetermined color palette here, but I may break all rules and go buy some jewel tones because DAMN this skirt makes me so happy. It’s a heavier weight jersey, so you don’t feel like all your .. stuff .. is showing, but the a-line flows beautifully thanks to the seaming details. It is PAJAMA-COMFORTABLE, and I literally just pair it with the tshirts above. Also cami- or tank worthy, if you’re into that. Perhaps my favorite feature is that the waistband rolls down, so you can adjust the length of the skirt. (That is just MONEY when you’re long-torsoed like me and everything then drags the ground.) LOVE LOVE LOVE.

The lovely Sarah James of Whoorl did a special not too long ago about lip colors and she modeled them all. One of her personal favorites that was echoed in the comments was the Korres Lip Butter Glaze, so the next time I was in Sephora, I picked one up. I AM IN LOVE. This is the first moisturizing lip product I’ve tried that doesn’t eventually dry out my lips. I am a chronic applier of lip products, so no matter how moisturizing it may be initially, I find a way to abuse that and it turns against me. This feels .. like .. butter, but is a gorgeous gloss. (Like Sarah, I also went with Quince as my shade choice.) Love it so.

Lastly, here’s my recent investment. And it’s funny, because while I wrung my hands at spending $45 on a skirt above, I’ve now got two of these babies in my arsenal and don’t blink at the price tag. Let me introduce you to the Skirt Sport Happy Girl. I am a long-time fan of compression capri pants when I run; they hold everything in, they eliminate chaffing, and I like to believe they make me look slimmer. But they don’t exactly breathe well, and SURPRISE! it’s really hot here in Alabama. I had a running skirt from Target that I bought in 2009, but it was too big at the waist, the “shorts” were really no more than a boyshort (i.e. CHAFFING GALORE), and running was a disaster in them. I MAY RUN IN THESE FOREVER MORE. They have a true compression short underneath them – think the inseam length of a Bermuda short – and it NEVER BUDGES the entire run. Not only that, but they’re seriously cute. I tend to stay in mine way after my run because I like the flouncy nature of it. True, I have to be mindful not to throw them in the dryer, but other than that? Easy peesy. (My hint to you: try them on if you can before you buy them. The prints come in slightly differing sizes and you may find you prefer a size smaller for the compression aspect of it.)
