I really am struggling to find words today because I am exhausted. The weekend was much longer than I thought it would be and yet it feels like it wasn’t a weekend at all. Bryan and I crawled into bed last night at 9:30 and we were all like, “Is tomorrow Sunday?”
Opening night was fantabulous. Our crowd was great (full house!) and lively and afterwards, I got to be a grown-up with a bunch of people I lurve. We had too much fun and lots of alcohol, as every opening night should be.
Saturday, myself and the boys walked down to Five Points for the day and kept ourselves occupied down there. Bryan was kind enough to take the boys shopping while I napped that afternoon, and then I crawled to the theatre. My leading lady was sick as a dog, and we spent most of that night’s performance making sure there were enough vomit receptacles around the stage.
I have to say, though, that even though she was death-warmed-over, she kicked ass to an oversold audience. They ate the show up, but it was so incredibly tense and stressful backstage that we didn’t get to fully enjoy it. I forbid the cast from going anywhere but “straight home” that night, and I did the same.
I slept in till 10:00 on Sunday morning, which gave me just enough time to shower before having to make call for our matinee. I had hoped that whatever bug Nina had caught would have passed by that point, but as she crept in and curled into a ball, I knew we were in for another great show. I ran over to Garden Cove to get some natural digestion herbs for her, where they tried to charge me $93 for 0.02 ounce of lavender (REALLY?!), and then we got the show underway.. to a pretty meager house.
Since there were plenty of extra seats, I snuck in the house for the second half .. and was completely blown away. I can’t believe that I was part of this show. It’s frickin’ amazing. Seriously. Y’all know that I am not the kind of person to toot my own horn or blow things out of proportion, but I am so incredibly proud of this show. All of our hard work has paid off, and this show has finally come to fruition on a Huntsville stage. I bawled through what part of the show I saw, and seriously had moments of “OMG, LOOK WHAT WE’VE MADE HAPPEN” through my tears. Everyone in town should come see our little show; I’m so extremely proud of it.
