Gah. I know that I, for one, should totally read this and take notes because I SUCK at eating well on business travel.

Old Field

I took this shot on a walk by my parents’ house in August. I grew up around these cotton fields, which always made me feel like we got a part of the south that most “city dwellers” may not enjoy. We had the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge behind us and nothing but cotton fields around us. It was so incredibly beautiful.

The last year has brought devastation to the area. The drought has caused most of the cotton crop to fail, and the heavily wooded area is now being razed for future home construction. It’s a sad, sad thing.

I’m sure this is what all old people feel like when they see their neighborhoods change over time, but my dad said it best, “I just feel like the Lorax.”
