The New Design

So, this is the new site. Still a few kinks to work out (many thanks to Steve today for helping where he could, and never once exclaiming, “God, why in the world do you do this to yourself?”), but all in all.. I feel okay about this. It’s much cleaner, and I needed a new slate to work from.

Things I still hope to achieve:

  • I am not a fan of the color scheme. I want pink where there’s blue. I will figure that out. Eventually.
  • I’m working with WordPress’s (relatively) new Widgets. They’re so new that there’s not many to choose from. I’m ready for the Chuck Norris widget that will enlighten you as to the many facets make up Chuck Norris.
  • I just learned about AllConsuming today, so I hope to make that happen. I like graphics.
  • I also am open to reader suggestions. You people look at this site; what do you think it needs?

    Pink for October

Sooooo.. where’s the new site design, you ask?  Sure enough, I was ready to take the plunge.  I had found a new theme that looked pretty cool, so I did all of the necessary steps, and then right before I hit the theme switcher, I got the error message that the stylesheet was missing.

Well, crap.  You know how sometimes, you get yourself all built up for something, and then nothing else you can find is good enough?

I’ve been back on the hunt.  I’ve got it narrowed down to wanting a fluid, 3-column theme that’s customizable OR already has a Flickr stream built into the code.  Anyway, while searching for the perfect site, I came across this little place..

So if you have a site of your own and you hate breast cancer (or you just love breasts), go pink for October and support the cause!

I know that Steph will rejoice in this product; it makes me incredibly happy.  Fresh touch up paint.. for five years!!

php is not a handheld made by Sony.

I love it when people look at my site and say, “Oh, you must know a lot more about code than I do!  Look at all of the customization you’ve done!” because this leads me to believe that I’ve fooled them.

    I really know nothing.  Seriously.

I can fake code, if I’ve seen it used somewhere and can piece together that this particular thirty lines of special characters makes a smiley face.  But if I’m really on my own, I suck arse.

So I apologize to my Safari readers.  I installed a static Flickr badge yesterday (because the HTML version only showed pictures of toile, and damn, that’s so boring), which I initially wanted displayed under my banner graphic, just like Steve has. (Admittedly, I want to be like Steve.) But I couldn’t get it to line up right, no matter where I stuck that damn code, so I gave up and stuck it in my sidebar.  My sidebar is where I stick everything, because it somehow seems easier to maneuver. (Remember when blogging was drag-and-drop easy?  Why did we move away from that?)

I finally thought I had it where it needed to be (although I wasn’t really pleased with it.. I just had stopped caring), and I went home to check my site on Safari.  OHMYGOD.  I gasped, because it was so out of place.  And then I refreshed, like, eighteen times because it’s NOT SUPPOSED TO BE PLASTERED THERE.

I’m getting to the point now where I may start browsing new themes altogether, because I just don’t understand how badly I’ve screwed this page up.  And maybe it’s time for a change.  Maybe it’s time to have rattles and baby blocks everywhere.

    Ugh.  Maybe not.

Edit: I found a new theme that calls to me.  Everyone say a silent prayer while I update WordPress AND install a new theme. .. AFTER lunch.
