Things that Make You Go Hmm.

I TOTALLY FORGOT THAT I WANTED TO POST ABOUT THIS.

When I stopped at the bank, I realized I didn’t have any deposit slips so I ran inside to fill out a blank one.  When I got up to the teller, she asked me how I was.  I’m usually overly-friendly, so I gushed, “I am GREAT because of this weather?  Isn’t this fabulous?”

She looked at me and nodded.  “I am so jealous of you, having the day to run around in that weather.”

I kinda just looked at her.  “Well, not the whole day,” I sputtered.  “Just a lunch break.”

“Oh, you work?” she asked.

… ?

I exploded with nervous laughter.  “Yeah, honey, of course I work!  I drive a nice car and have a house payment and like to eat.  A girl’s gotta work!”

And she looked at me and said, “I just figured.. you know.. cause of you being..”

I didn’t ask her to finish the statement, because she was just trying to make small talk like I was, and there was no need in making her squirm.  But I wondered what the rest of that thought was.  “Cause of you being..”

.. a girl?

.. a white girl?

.. pregnant?

.. a redhead?

It was just one of those moments, similar to the one I had during the first trimester, that made me stop and think, “We’ve come a long way, baby.”

So Incredible, This Weather

Just as a warning: the colder air makes my productivity take a nose dive.

I am the WORST about spring fever, except my fever is not limited to spring.  It is almost worse in fall.  When we finally can get back outdoors without melting, and the leaves are just about to turn, and there’s FOOTBALL every Saturday.. I lose the will to do anything productive.

As incredibly cheesy as it sounds, I actually got butterflies today as I drove through my neighborhood.  Isn’t that lame?  I had to run to the bank at lunch, so I ran to the bank that is .02 minutes away from my work.  But it was SO gorgeous outside that I thought, Hm, why go back just yet? and instead, I drove all the way to Five Points.

And yes, as I drove down Pratt, I got butterflies.  I felt like I was 19 again.  I felt like I needed to grab a bottle of water, a rotessorie chicken, cheese, grapes, bread, and a book, and head up to Monte Sano park.  It was just so amazing.

When I got to the house, I had leftover lemon butter raviolli waiting, so I dined on that and then parked my large tukus on a bench in our front yard and read my book for an hour.  It was so lovely and luxurious and amazing.

Have I mentioned how much I love fall?

Is this really where we are?  In our world of open communication, tolerance, and freedom.. this is where we are?!

Seven Months Stuff

So, some things that they never tell you about pregnancy that I thought I would share:

  • When you hit seven months, you will balloon out.  And people will suddenly notice when you’re pregnant.  And they will ask when you’re due.  And when you mention a date that is not three weeks, but two months away.. they will look at you like you’re a monstrous freak.
  • Remember the ballooning thing I just mentioned?  It will make your life much more difficult than you thought.  As in, even wiping your ass is difficult, because you suddenly have to maneuver around this socer ball.
  • Cooking on a stove is troublesome.  Make sure all handles point WAY inward (you should do this anyway), and remember that you can’t stand right up on the stove and turn.  Or you will burn your belly.
  • Rolling over at night SUCKS.  You will soon learn to just not move.  My grunting and panting actually woke Bryan up the other night.

In other news, we had our date night last night, which was fabulous.  I made a great dinner of a lemon butter raviolli (I thought it was fabulous.. Bryan doesn’t like cheese, because he’s a freak), and then we ran off to the movies.  Last night’s flick was Shoot ‘em Up, which was.. well.. there’s a podcast coming.

(It did have the very hott Clive Owen in it.)

Because we caught the early show, we made it home in enough time to relax on the couch.  I started our Book Club book, A Year of Magical Thinking, of which I owe endless thanks to Caroline for lending me her copy.  Bryan researched his genes.  Then we went to bed.

And we woke up to fall.  Isn’t it GLORIOUS outside?!
