Since I worked 13 freakin’ hours today (ON MY FEET OH MY JESUS), I’m going to take the easy way out and do the meme Jonathan of Step-Family Talk tagged me to do:
Name five reasons you love blogging.
1) I will be the first to admit that I loved the exhibitionism aspect of blogging, first and foremost. I liked that I could put down my ideas, my thoughts, my feelings.. and you sick, lovely people will read it. Part of that still exists: for instance, I like knowing that I can say something like “I sure want some miso soup” and Kari will call me and know to ask, “So when are we going?” So yes, I still write because you people read it. But now it’s more like.. instead of letting you read my porn, it’s a giant to-do list that you all help me with.
2) I work with engineers all day. If you don’t know any engineers, you’re really missing out. Everyone should know engineers. But working with them is a tad stressful. It’s like working with autistic animals. Truly. There’s a REASON they all have velcro shoes. Regardless, there are two things that help me cope with this: theatre and writing. I can do this at work (my company, probably realizing what mental stability it gives us non-engineers, actually sanctions and encourages blogging), while they look at me funny if I do theatre at work. I’m careful to rarely talk about work on here — thanks, Dooce! — but it gets me through the day.
3) I am a really twisted individual. I have various and sundry thoughts throughout the day that should probably never be shared. And this allows me to share these thoughts. And you get to say, “OHMYGOD, I thought I was the only one who was proud of the shape of their poop!”
4) And this is kind of an indirect answer, but I love blogging because I love reading blogs. I have a bazillion subscriptions to blogs and I feel personally attached to the people behind them. There is no feeling like reading something very personal or funny in someone else’s life and realizing that humanity is very overarching, and if we all just let down our walls, we get a lot more out of life.
5) Fluffy.
So there! My five reasons why I love blogging. And with all due respect to Jonathan, I’m not going to tag five other bloggers. If it strikes your fancy, feel free to answer and let me know to visit you! (Although I’ve probably already subscribed to you.)
