“It is just NOT an appropriate shower in the south
without petite fours
and cheese straws.
You MUST have them.”
- Courtney Green

That quote has no bearing on today’s post, other than I am munching on cheese straws as I type.  It came out as we were setting up for Delle’s baby shower, a.k.a. THE BABY SHOWER TO END ALL BABY SHOWERS, and I had to agree.  It is just a southern thing to have petite fours and cheese straws.

Truth be told, I don’t even LIKE cheese straws.

It’s a Monday again.  I’m so ready for the holiday.  My company has this fantastic policy where we don’t waste the little holidays (President’s Day, Columbus Day, etc), and then we get the entire Christmas season off.  I pretty much get the same holiday the school system gets, with the added bonus of a paycheck.  Which is AWESOME.  But, at the same time, knowing I’ve got that HUGE chunk of time off means that I don’t really have a lot of motivation until then.  The last few weeks have been satisfyingly busy at work, but nothing that makes me want to hang around.

Bryan told me a few weeks back that he hates when I say I can’t wait for the weekend, because it makes us sound like that’s all we have to look forward to.  So I’ve been trying to enjoy the weeknights, too.. but in reality, I can’t wait for another weekend.

I had a great few days this weekend.  Friday night was JUST what I needed, with the Coven gathering around boiling oil and having too much fun.  We laughed a lot, had some awesome food, and I felt good for the first time in a long while.  It was just me that I had to worry about, and there was good food and great friends.. it was very nice.  And very needed.  And I think we came up with a killer idea for a podcast, and Steph provided us with the name: “Champagne Dreams.”  It still makes me laugh.

I slept in until 8:00 the next morning (which, when you wake up at 5:30 during the week, is wonderful), and then worked my arse off cleaning the house.  I put all of the superfluous Christmas away, I washed our comforter, I mopped the kitchen.. I did a lot of stuff I’d been meaning to do since Thanksgiving.  I even baked snickerdoodles for Bryan’s return home from Trumbauer.

Then Sarah had a bit of a come-apart.  She dropped her basket, as it were.

Sunday was a nice day, with Bryan finally home.  We just basically piddled around the house and did some stuff we’d been meaning to do.. hung a new light fixture, put down some flooring stuff, bathed the deaf dog.. it was nice.  Then we joined Daddy for dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings.  We braved the cold to get hot chocolate and apple cider from Target, and then we headed home to flip through Dateline and the AKC dog show.

Very laid-back weekend, which makes this week look horrible.

But there’s next weekend to look forward to.
