“I want a girl who looks good when she wakes up in the morning.
We could take her face and dip it in dough and she’ll make some nice face cookies.
Some girls wake up, man, you could put their face in dough and you’ll get a gorilla cookie, for real!”
- Flavor Flav, on his ideal woman

“But some emotions don’t make a lot of noise.
It’s hard to hear pride.
Caring is real faint - like a heartbeat.
And pure love - why, some days it’s so quiet,
you don’t even know it’s there.”

I love this quote.  Love it.  Because it’s so true.

I have two favorite holidays every year: Halloween and Christmas.  Christmas is a HUGE holiday to me because of all that it represents: family, food, togetherness, glitter, and love.  Halloween, however, is important to me for the same reasons.  It was something that was a big deal in the Bitter House, and is an excuse for an already dramatical gal to be even more so. (And yes, dramatical is a word.  Ask Flava Flav.)

I realized yesterday that I haven’t had a Halloween costume in two years.  Nor had I attended a party.  Nor had I even engaged in anything slightly Halloweenish.  It made me very sad.  I even dug up old pictures of Halloween past, pics of Delle and I as Cinderella (I was before and she was after), Delle as a Lady Bug, me as a Pirate Wench.  Good times.

Last night, as it started to downpour in Five Points right at sunset, I realized there would be no Trick-or-Treaters.  I turned off our jack-o-lantern, our green goo lights, and our blinking eyeballs.  I was truly bummed.

Bryan was off at rehearsal.  Double suck.

So I spent the evening with a book and a bath.

Bryan finally wandered home around 9, and scared the bejeezus outta me by coming in the back door.  Then he plopped down on the couch and said, “Okay, let’s put Hostel on.”

I argued.  He wouldn’t make it through the movie, it was already nine o’clock on a work night, etc.

He insisted.

And although we got to bed WAAAAY too late, I sat there, enjoying a truly scary gruesome movie with my husband, and I realized that he must really love me to treat me to such a fantastic Halloween.

That’s all.
