Last night, while my husband was building a set, I took a walk.
But not around MY neighborhood. We’re leaving MY neighborhood.
Instead, I went down to Five Points, where we will soon be living. And I decided to walk around OUR neighborhood.
See, I’m not really excited about this house. It’s a fine house, and it will do, but it’s not really much of what I wanted in a house. Bryan pushed hard, though.. something about that house, he REALLY liked. I thought, you know, it’s just a year. I’ve lived in worse for longer, so this is do-able.
Last night, as I walked around, I realized why he pushed so hard. Because I LURVE this neighborhood. I love the old trees, and the arching canopies of shade they make. I like the sidewalks, well-used and well-loved. I miss knowing my neighbors by their old-southern names.. Fern, MeeMaw, Gladys. I can’t wait for all of us to walk down to Sazio’s or Thai Garden for dinner. It’s a neighborhood where The Boy can feel safe. It’s a neighborhood where I don’t have to worry about someone pegging my dog with paintballs.
I have missed historic Huntsville, and I can’t wait to be back.
