For Scout

Through your eyes, skies look brighter,

grass more green.. clouds are whiter.

When you’re close, cares grow lighter..

I’m glad that you were born.

Through your eyes, hills stretch higher;

When you smile, you inspire

hearts to sing in a choir..

I’m glad that you were born.

Born to laugh, born to dream,

born to spread your light..

Through your eyes, I see clearer..

You bring God so much nearer..

Life has grown so much dearer.

I’m glad that you were born.

Reality Fairy

So Scout is well on her way. :) I’m very excited about having a new baby around.  I’m very excited to have a new WildeChick.  All of this is very exciting.

With all of the hullabaloo about Scout and Avery-or-Lawson-Lloyd-Kincaid-maybe, I had put a very important event out of my head.  My mother asked me about it the other day: Have you done any wedding stuff?

Oh, shit.  Who’s getting married?

Oh, yeah.. me.

I can plan, decorate, drape everything in tulle for someone else, but I have to say that when it comes to my own event planning.. I suck.  Badly.  I’m sitting here, looking at various reception sites around town, and not really caring.  It’s not that I don’t want a reception.. I just want it to magically appear.

I’m looking at the Grand Hall for the reception, with the Children’s Pavillion/Garden as the ceremony site.

And mom and I agreed on a napkin to base the wedding colors around.

.. and that’s it, really.

I know the dress.  I know the bridesmaid’s dresses.  I know that, you know, I’m getting married mid-October.  Other than that.. I’ve got nothing.

.. one more baby, and then I’ll think about it. :)

Edit: I totally just called EarlyWorks, and the words left my lips, “I’m trying to coordinate a wedding reception-type-function.”  TYPE-FUNCTION?  To be quite honest, the whole thing made me very giddy.. I’M GETTING MARRIED!

Reviews, a la Sarah

So, this weekend was all about viewing.  Last you heard, we were scheduled to see The Hills Have Eyes at the theatre.  And boy howdy, did we.  Now, as you also read and should take into consideration, I LOOOOOVE scary movies.  I adore them.  And I’m also aware that you have to turn your brain off when you walk into one.  I’m not sure it’d be as powerful or entertaining at home, but in the theatres.. this was a GREAT scary movie.  Lots (and I mean, LOTS) of blood and guts, tons of jumpy moments, and some characters that you love to hate.  Oh, and Waterpail.. you in particular will like this movie.  There’s a german shepard that kicks ass.  We really had a good time in the movie, although the effects were not at all realistic.. and the ending sucked.  But I really did enjoy it, and so did Bryan.

Then, at Ra’s suggestion, we went to Brusters and had “birthday cake” ice cream.  Well, I did, anyway.  Bryan wanted a milkshake (he’s a freak).  Anyway, the ice cream was TO DIE FOR.  It’s hard finding good desserts that allow me to keep my Lent promise, and this is a new favorite.  “Cake Batter” ice cream with sprinkles and a ribbon of buttercream frosting.. it was YUMMY.  We ate our ice cream in the car with the windows down.. very highschool, very fun.

The next morning, I got a bug in me to clean, so I was up by 9 to scour the house.  I always feel so much more ready for the coming week when the house is clean.  It’s the OCD part of me.  I can’t function in a dirty house.

Then, we went to see Everest Theatre’s “The Glass Menagerie”.  Two of Bryan’s boys were in it; they were fantastic.  Michael easily won the crowd with his charm and Graham was the epitome of the brooding twenty-something who has been put in the “breadwinner” position, despite his desire for adventure. (Sympathize?  Moi?  Nooooooo.) The young woman playing Laura was very good in her role, quiet and demure and terrified.  But the character I always wanted to play.. the part I now have added to the list of “before I die”.. is Amanda Wingfield.  And I felt that the young woman playing the part did a fine job, but I wanted to tweak her ever-so-slightly.  There was a flicker of the right nuance there, but it was too faint.  And her hair was wrong.  And Delle, I’m almost positive she wore your wedding dress from “Seven Brides”.. But all in all, it was a great show.

That night, Bryan made chicken alfredo and we went back for more ice cream.  THEY WERE OUT OF BIRTHDAY CAKE. (The whole reason we went.) So we asked for another flavor, which escapes me now, because they didn’t have that, either.  Finally, Bryan asked for two scoops of Pecan Prailine and I got two of coconut cake.  Mine sucked ass, and they only had enough of Bryan’s order for one scoop.  We left very disappointed.

Then we watched Rent, which furthered our feelings of hopelessness.  Why?, you may ask.  Was it because everyone had AIDS?  Was it because the man was keeping these tortured spirits down?  No, it was because it sucked.  It sucked BAD.  The music was rudimentary, the staging was horrid.. it was decently acted, but other than that.. the storyline just basically served to piss me off.  THIS is the voice of my generation?  “We’re not gonna pay.. last year’s rent.. this year’s rent.. next year’s rent..”  SUCK IT UP, HIPPIE!  That’s part of life!  Sure, we all have dreams we want to pursue.. we all have talents that could be amazing to follow, but don’t pay for shit.. but we don’t all get to be drama teachers.  Sometimes, you have to be a paper-pusher at an engineering firm to pay the rent.

It really, REALLY, pissed me off.  La vie boheme, sure.  But pay the fuckin’ rent.

Anyway.. Sunday, we did a bunch of nothing.  Laid on the couch, slept off and on, went to the store and stocked up on groceries.  Basically, we were just domestic.  I “made” (i.e. reheated from the freezer) Mom’s lasagna, and we had a fantabulous dinner.  Also, this weekend, I had a glass of Portugese wine every night.  It was loverly.  We watched the remake of The Amityville Horror, which featured the very hot Ryan Reynolds.  However, he is a very bad man.  That does not completely negate the fact that he’s hot(t).  He went shirtless in several scenes and even Bryan had to admit that he was hot.  Then Bryan caught on to the trend in my Netflix pics.. Taye Diggs in Rent.. Ryan Reynolds in The Amityville Horror.. Vince Vaughn in The Wedding Crashers..

The movie, though, was very good.  Not as scary as the original in some respects.. the original was far more psychological, while the remake was more visual.. but very good.  A nice way to close the weekend.  Also, a nice piece to start a dialogue on step-parents who lose their minds and try to kill their families.  It could happen, you know.

And today?  Well, today is huge.  Ginormous.  Today is the birthday of my second niece, Scout.  Scout’s Uncle Sarah is VERY excited about this occasion.  So is Aunt Bryan.
