Today is as much a Monday as they can be, that’s for sure.
It’s raining outside. Well, snowing on Monte Sano (last I heard), but raining here. And cold. Wet cold.
Speaking of cold, my body finally gave up the fight. I think it’s pretty official: I have the flu. My fever is not debilitating today, so I’m still at work and just drinking tons of fluids and popping the aspirin. If it gets worse tomorrow, I may stay in. But I’m gonna power thru it as much as I can.
To top off my Monday, the following amazing things all happened within an hour of me leaving my house:
- my car was side-swiped last night. This pains me greatly because my father has complained to me non-stop that I shouldn’t park on the street. It’s not safe, he’d say. No, I’d counter, I live in a perfectly safe neighborhood. Damn. Luckily, all that was damaged was my driver’s side mirror, but still.. sucks.
- I was/am wearing a purple silk cami under a black brocade blazer today (try saying that three times fast!) because, instead of watching that game thingie, I watched the "What Not to Wear" marathon, and it inspired me to dress better. (Of course, the irony of that show is that if I had the $5k they give you, of COURSE I would dress better.) Anyway, so as I come to my desk this morning, I realize there is a slight draft on my right shoulder. Because, of course, the strap to my shirt has broken.
- Walking across campus to get to our repro center, I realize that a heel of one of my boots is so loose, it wiggles.
So, you know, life goes on and it’s not that any of these have me down and out, but it was almost comical how quickly bad things befell me this morning. I must’ve racked up some bad karma this weekend, although I’m not entirely sure how.
Anyway, back to the marathon I caught last night.. it really got me thinking. Well, that and the fact that a friend of mine was talking about how she had overspent at NYCO this weekend, and I told her she didn’t overspend, she
invested. Clothes are an investment. So now I’m rethinking my current wardrobe choices. I wear jeans to work entirely too much (most of that is based on weather; since we walk almost a mile in from the parking lot, skirts are not always practical when it’s raining and 35 degrees), so I actually planned out my wardrobe for the week last night. Ironed it, rolled it (sticky rollers.. an indispensable necessity when you have our zoo), and it’s ready to go. And you know what? That’s a huge stress lifted. I know I’ll look good, all week.. and I won’t have to lay in bed and analyze my closet from a distance.
Because, you know, I’m lame.
I think it’s because everyone around me is ready to pop, but I’ve had babies on the brain recently. Don’t tell Bryan.
I need new shoes (she said, as she wiggled her loose heel). I can’t find boots anywhere. I already needed new brown boots, because Charlie made a meal of my last two pairs, but now I (apparently) need black ones too. But they’re nowhere to be found. (And yes, I’m aware they’re at Parisians and Dillards.. at $100 a pair. I’m talking Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Ross..)
That’s all the random chatter I have for you today. Sorry it’s so stream-of-consciousness, but I really don’t feel well.
