i had a splendid evening last night. truly. i have to thank bryan whole-heartedly for making me go. when the cc debaucle occurred, it was my wish to stay indoors and hide. he was against it from the get go, saying we don’t hide. he said we had to be out, TOGETHER, as a team, to show that we’re fine.
and he was right.
i was SOOO happy to see everyone dressed up, especially after the diatribe i’d had several times leading up to the evening. i only counted one pair of jeans, and i forgave him. because it was tim. and tim is such a fantastic guy. everyone looked lovely!
my best dressed family award goes to (drumroll, please): the ATKINS family! such lovely ladies, all dressed in their own individual styles, looking amazing and being as phenomenal as always. miss lindy and i had a personal chat that really, REALLY meant the world to me, so she gets extra props. lovely, lovely ladies!!
the best dressed couple award goes to (drumroll, please): US! bryan looked deliciously handsome in his tux and white satin shirt and tie. mm, he was yummy. and i looked okay in my dress. he definitely brought me up a notch. he wore his red ribbon, i wore my pink.. we looked lovely. we matched, being the team that we are.
the most surprising ensemble award goes to (drumroll, please): KEBOOBALAH! he had the most surprising (lack of) accessory. see, as i’m sure you might’ve also, i had been wondering why he had changed his profile pic on his site. i figured it was in celebration of bad german accent day, but i guessed wrong..
biggest heart swell of the evening goes to (okay, kill the drumroll): miss karen, for her acceptance of best direction of a production with music for last year’s cc. we were sitting next to her and warned her that we would be obnoxious when they called her name (we did not disappoint), and then when she won.. it’s very easy to forget that we are all real people underneath. she stopped me after the awards and told me how important i’ve been to cc over the past few years, and how i embody the christmas spirit. we had so many disagreements during that show.. that meant the world to me. and she totally earned that one.
most awkward placement of a speech: bringing everyone back together after a lively intermission only to give two memoriams. please don’t misunderstand: i’ve spoken before about how integral fred has been to me, and bryan was extremely moved by tony’s memories, so i’m not saying that we shouldn’t have celebrated their lives. i AM saying that perhaps it would’ve allowed for a smoother flow if we had LED INTO the intermission with that. because how do you wipe tears away, remembering some amazing men, and then try and be excited about the next award?
most asked questions to me: IT’S A TIE!! one was “so tell me about that special needs kid who got that special award..?” and two was, “so have you two set a date?”
biggest smile moment of the entire evening: ALSO A TIE!! (it was a year of ties) when waterpail got up to talk up b&tb (in lieu of an absent Dolly), he gave me a shout-out. that’s my waterpail, right there. and the other one? walking into the north hall, i freaked out. i was INCREDIBLY nervous about seeing all of these people after NOT seeing them when i said i would see them earlier. bryan held my hand and said, “i am proud to be here with you. i haven’t been able to be proud in a long time. i am proud. walk with me.” so i did. and i was proud, too.
congrats to all the winners, and we’ll have to do it again next year.
