NONE of my managers are in today.  With the exception of Boss, who was thoroughly agitated that no one else showed up for work.  I would like to state for the record, I pointed out repeatedly, that I am here.  Work can continue.  Sarah is here.

Speaking of stoppage of work, Christopher came by first thing when I got back to my desk.  He had, in his hand, the laptop that they were supposed to be installing at his desk.  Keep in mind, this laptop HAD belonged to someone else, and had been cable-locked down to that person’s desktop until IT would show up to move and reinstall it.  And he had it in his hand.  "Christopher," I said, BARELY keeping my tone even, "Pray tell, WHY do you have that laptop in your hand?"  He said he was going to move it.  "But it was locked down
for a reason," I say, through clenched teeth.  Now, anyone with brain one would catch on that they’ve done something wrong at this point, but oh-no-not-Christopher.

"But I got the cable lock off!" he says, proudly.  "Now I can just plug it in at my station."

Cue Hurricane Sarah.

Half of our servers are down, so there is very little point to being here today.  I wonder how long Sarah can make it.  It’s very tempting to leave early and go home and nap.  It’s good napping weather.  And although we fared well in the storm, we did not get a lot of sleep last night.

Funny quote from last night: "Next time that dog runs away, don’t bother calling his name.  Just start making really good sex noises.  You won’t be able to keep him away."

“All good things come to those who wait.” - tis true!  Doesn’t make waiting any easier, but it does make the reward that much more delicious.

Well, Katrina is through.  There were some rough winds last night, that’s for sure, and my neighborhood looks like a war zone.  Trees, limbs, leaves, debris EVERYWHERE.  But we made it through.

Hunkered down with “Hide & Seek” last night, arguably the most stupid movie I’ve seen in a while.  You just have to think that a movie with Robert DeNiro, Dakota Fanning, Famke Jensen, and Elizabeth Shue would have some sort of amazing stuff in it, but really, it just irritated us.  You know it’s not good when the main characters are faced with mortal danger and the audience is yelling, “Just kill them!  Get it over with!  Jesus!”

The pictures of the devastation from Katrina are just heartbreaking.  And it looks like the worst is not yet over for the Big Easy.  Keep them in your prayers.

MaMa will probably be going home today.  They’ve put a stint in and it seems to be working; she’s gaining strength back at an admirable pace.  Jenni, however, they’re probably keeping for a little longer.  They still don’t know what they’re fighting.  I just want her HOME.

Thanks, K, for your help.  That was PERFECT.

I’ve entered a very noncommital phase in my job.  I just don’t care.  I’m tired of being annoyed over trivial things like mousepads; I want to get my hands dirty with real things.  I finally exploded yesterday at the poor Christopher guy.  He is having a new desktop installed, and I’ve CC’d him on any and all correspondence with IT, so we’re all on the same page.  Yet he CONSISTENTLY comes by to ask me about it.  I finally asked him yesterday what his workload looked like, and if he obviously needed more to do, and if I could assist him by telling his manager that because he knows EVERYTHING THAT I KNOW about his silly little desktop and that I’ve done ALL I CAN DO, and would you just PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE FOR ONE SINGLE DAY?  Liz laughed.  She said, “Sarah, you silly girl.  He is obviously not coming by about a computer.  He is crazy about you.”

I don’t care.  Crazy does not suit me.

I think it’s time for a long weekend for Sarah.  I’m ready for Jenni to be home, HERE, and my MaMa to be home, and for the Lee drama department to have some stability.. ::sigh:: Just three more work days.  I can hang.

Katrina and the Old Nude Whore

You know that incredibly hyperactive vibe that circulates around a school when there’s bad weather in the forecast and there’s a chance everyone might get tomorrow off?  It happens at work, too.  People are going crazy around here, talking about 26-foot waves (hello, ON THE COASTLINE) and a foot of rain (again, people this was happening on the Gulf), and how we’re OBVIOUSLY not coming in tomorrow.

So.. I’m probably having some wine tonight.  Why not?  We get the day off tomorrow anyway.

Funny little pick me up.. our supplies vendor promised to deliver me some special-order supplies, and he promised to deliver them with a smile.  I had completely forgotten until he sent me an email today saying that he was out of town on business, so he couldn’t deliver as he promised.  I thought that meant not to expect the supplies, but they arrived today.. with a self-portrait of himself, smiling.  He’s a cutie.

Very excited to have a four-day workweek.  And now, this late in the day, it’s just a three-day workweek.

I channeled Caroline this weekend.  She would be so proud of me.  I sunbathed.. nude.. in my backyard.  And I thought of her saying the other night, “Man, my neighbors have seen me naked so much, they’re like, ‘Man, there goes that old whore again… and of course, she’s NAKED.”

So I’m well on my way to being that old nude whore next door.  And it rhymes!

I hate it when colleagues of mine say “HuntsPatch.”  Yes, we are in the south, but let’s face it.. y’all haven’t done any better with the shuttle.  Screw you.

I sent the email this morning about Saturday night at Steph’s, and have gotten no response.  But I think I’ve solved that issue.  Maybe he really HADN’T forgotten.  It’s entirely possible.  He’s usually VERY good with that kind of stuff, and Lord knows he’s been busy lately.  I guess I have to keep in focus the fact that he’s wonderful to me every day of the year.. he needn’t go out of his way for just one day.

(Does that sound believable?)

But lunch with the ladies sounds great.. and a fiesta at Steph’s sounds MARVELOUS!

I just hope that, by that point, everyone I know is in perfect health.

Stay dry, kiddies.  Much love.
