So, I’ve come to the realization that it’s time.

I’ve had this iBook since I was.. 23, maybe? A long, long time. So, three years later and four houses later, it has (understandably) seen better days. I wrote in my last post about how I need to update the router in my house, so it will talk to dynamic IP addresses. I also need a power cord for my “work” laptop. Where did my other one go, you ask? I never got one. Know what sucks about that? THEY DON’T SELL THEM.

Whether or not you notice, my iBook is missing a shift key. You don’t realize how often you use a shift key until you lose one. And yes, I could just replace they keyboard, but everything on this machine runs at the speed of molasses, and I read things about operating systems that make this one sound just a step above a Speak N Spell.

I think I have to upgrade. And I don’t want to.

Bryan and I are simple people. We just need something that functions. We like speed, but fancy bells and whistles aren’t us. We love our camera, mostly because we just wanted good pictures and have been pleasantly surprised to find out that it does things cooler than we anticipated.. like take videos. How cool IS that? I didn’t know digital cameras did that! I didn’t know because, before that, we just either used a disposable camera on hand or we sketched things REALLY fast.

But because I’m simple, I’ve put off upgrading. The task of finding a good laptop seems daunting. I have no idea what I’m looking for, or even what it’s called anymore. And I am not really sold on needing another apple product. (Love the look, but it’s just not practical for an engineering type female.) I think the time has come, but it’s not a time I’m looking forward to.

I wonder what Costco has to offer.

macbook with parallels is what you need.

    parallels: http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/

And yes, it works. It works so darned amazingly.

or you could end up having to use ::shudder:: vista.

Here’s a little screencast of the latest Parallels and how it can run Windows apps in OS X. Dude calls it OS ‘ex’ (instead of OS 10) and has a frog in his throat but it’s a nice, simple and quick demo of the latest feature of Parallels.
