My Monday, Your Tuesday

“You go get Elyse.
I will stay here with Sawah
and we will build.
I will keep an eye on her, don’t worry,
and if she goes anywhere,
I will say,
“Hey, come back here,”
and then I will put her in a time-out.
You go now.”
- Mikey Bincent Hyatt, to Bryan

There is nothing more amazing than spending time with a three-year old engineer.  Because, although you know things like literature and tying your shoes, he will still make you feel like a moron when you’re buidling with blocks.  He will figure out fulcrum and balance and how to evenly distribute the weight of a skating Elmo while you’re still figuring out how in the hell he managed to make a slipknot all on his own.

As you may have guessed, Bryan and I had the distinct privilage of hanging out with Mr. Mikey Bincent Hyatt last night for a few hours.  Steph kept thanking us for it; there was really no way for me to articulate how it was our pleasure.  The kid is most entertaining.  And a three-year old engineer is something I don’t get to see everyday.

I’m feeling small today.  I need to have my rings sized (they almost slipped off my finger entirely when I was walking in the cold this morning) and I bought new pants from NYCO last night without trying them on, and they’re HUGE.  While I would love to believe that, clearly, I’m shrinking, reality points to the suggestion that it was just an odd pair of pants.  NYCO is pretty consistent in their sizing, unlike Gap, so the chances that I lost three inches in my waist are pretty slim.

No pun intended.

I’m pretty excited about auditions this next weekend, especially since I’ve got my husband and Coven-seester attending also.  I think that would be too much fun.  Also excited about going to see “Proof”, since I’ve heard such glowing reviews about Nina.  And I can’t remember the last time Kevin and I went to see a play together.  It used to be a weekly tradition, and it’s been almost a year. (I think the last time was 2005’s Christmas Carol, where he snuck cotton candy in at intermission to persuade me to stay.)

SOOO.. this weekend.  Well, I had The Boy all weekend, which was fun.  I have to say that I like this kid.  There are times when I have to be stern, but I never have to be mean.  He’s pretty content being good.  We spent three hours on Saturday finishing a two-week project that hadn’t been started yet that was due on Monday.. boy, that was fun. Saturday night, I took him out for hot chocolate and we drove around looking at early Christmas lights.  Sunday, we went on a photo shoot for a local community.

.. which brings me to another gripe.  I was asked to come to this shoot.  When I mentioned that I would have a child in tow, I was told that would be fine.  However, it was obviously NOT fine, because they did not want to advertise to the single mom sect.  Unless we were in frame with ANOTHER single mom, to give the guise of a play date while our significant others were off at work, we were not invited into that shot.  It was a little frustrating, and hella biased discriminatory.

I have two glorious dark days before my beloved goes back into the theatre.  You will, most likely, see us out and about today.  I think we may try and tackle the leaves this afternoon before the storms roll in tomorrow.

And maybe I’ll return these pants.
