A long standing joke between Boss and myself is to “Call TBS” when one of us makes a joke.  This refers to the old TBS campaign of “That’s funny”, where you had to call a hotline to determine if a joke or situation is really and truly humorous.  We’ve found several ways to get back at eachother with this such as “Line’s busy” or “They won’t take your call” or “Call them your damn self.” 

Today, I was putting a call through to an exec’s office and got his secretary.  She wouldn’t put me through without a reason, so I hollered back to Boss, “What are we talking about?”

He answered, and I parroted.  Maybe this is why I should become more technical. “He needs to discuss S&M emplacement.”

“Excuse me?” said the secretary.

I was unfazed.  “S&M emplacement,” I repeated.  “They need to discuss S&M.”

I hear Boss laughing hysterically in the background.

Later, after he finally got through and he wrapped up his end of hte phone call, I noticed that he was laughing so hard, he was crying.  “SMN,” he corrected me.  “Site Management Notification.  Not at all sadism and masochism.  We should call TBS.”

I was mortified.  Well, as mortified as I get.  “Maybe I should call our Ethics department,” I countered.

“Nah,” he said.  “It’s the same number for both departments.”
