today, president bush held a teleconference. from his rose garden. again. he said what we all knew days ago, that the effort so far was “inexcusable”. really? what makes you say that? the many pictures of the dead, covered in bedsheets? the hungry children, crying out from the arms of their overwhelmed mothers? you’re right on the money there, georgie.
the pictures are amazing. it’s easy to see them and try and justify in your head: that’s rwanda. that’s iraq. we’re looking at south africa here. but it’s not. it’s down the street. it’s next door. those are our neighbors, our children. our taxes go to THIS. and he’s right.. it’s inexcusable.
i am ANGRY. i am livid that people have gone five days without water. and the only relief they’ve had is two helicopters that flew overhead.. not even LANDING.. and throwing bottled water to the 25,000 below at the convention center. and THIS is our relief.
and need i mention that we don’t have enough national guard here to get the situation under control? why don’t we? because they’re overseas, protecting us from an enemy we haven’t seen. i’m not saying i’m not grateful for what they’re doing.. i am saying there should be at least half of them HERE, to protect us from what has happened.
about an hour after that, bush was again on tv, speaking to governor bob riley in mobile. gov. bob told bush how alabama would help. then the governor of mississippi also did the same thing. then the head of the coast guard did the same thing. and georgie did what he does best.. he nodded. said nothing, just nodded.
the people of the south have always taken care of our own. and we’re prepared to do so again.
then, god love him, someone let poor george speak. he said, “we need to get these people food. and water. america likes to know that it’s people are in control.” thank god you were here, george.
i’m fixing to go eat lunch with my 9/3 girls. they’ll put me in better spirit.
