Bryan took me to lunch for "football-type food" during the halftime of Alabama’s game on Saturday. We were sitting, waiting for our food when we overheard:
Little girl: Daddy, daddy.. I think I see a monster!
Daddy: Where, baby?
(pointing)
Daddy: No, baby, that’s not a monster, that’s a razorback.
(pause)
Daddy: They haven’t been very monstrous OR scary this year.
Football season has ALWAYS been a fantastic time of year for me. My Daddy and I used to watch the games together, every week, making large spreads of food that no one else liked.. oysters, sardines (with pork n’ beans), wings with bleu cheese.. and we’d watch a little of the game. Mostly, we gathered for the food. Delle taught me most of what I know about football, as we would spend entire days camped out in front of the SEC. We’d make food runs, but we were there for the football.
Now, Bryan and I have a good mix of the two. We only have certain teams that we watch, and we never go hungry during the game. Most of the time, we hit Beauregard’s on a football Saturday (the Airport location knows us by name), but sometimes we shake it up. It’s just nice.
Football is not just a sport in the south. It’s honestly a quality of life thing.
Oh, and there is one aspect of the game that Bryan brings to the table.. we have some awesome naps during the not-so-important games on Saturday. This Saturday had the best nap EVER, with the windows to the house open, a nice cool breeze blowing, and the drone of the Tennessee game in the background. We crashed.
Our son’s middle name will be "Bear", in case you were wondering.
