Some Stuff I’ve Made from Pinterest: Holiday Edition

Yay! I knew you were excited.

It’s that time of the year that we pretty much live in the kitchen. Also known as: SARAH’S FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR. I love the food associated with the holidays. (Contain your shock.) It’s completely Italian to associate food with love, so the food this time of year just reminds me how blessed we are, and how much we all love eachother. Also, STAY OUT OF MY KITCHEN.

Now, I’ll admit: some of these things are things I’ve found elsewhere and pinned MYSELF to Pinterest, but either way.

(Click on the link to get to the Pinterest page, and then click on the picture from there for the recipe.)

Peppermint Bark via Southern Plate – I ADORE Christy. She’s from here, but her recipes are pure southern tradition, and her peppermint bark is one of the very first things I tried in the kitchen. I was terrified, and it’s SO EASY. Since then, I mix it up a bit .. I like doing dark chocolate as my first layer .. but the basics remain the same. Totally quick, easy, and worthy of a cookie exchange or teacher’s gift.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread via All Recipes – Out of nowhere, Bryan asked me to make pumpkin bread. Specifically, he wanted it in mini-loaf-tins. Which .. random. But he rarely asks for anything specific, so I obliged with this recipe. It is a WINNER. It took less than 30 minutes to combine and prep, and it cooked for another 40 (preparing 9 mini-loaves), and MAN, does it taste good. Apparently this was a winter tradition at one of Bryan’s old stomping grounds, but he just now thought me capable enough to handle the task. :)

Oreo Truffles via Bakerella – I love these bad boys. I love it when you can combine fairly inexpensive grocery store ingredients to make something sinfully delicious, and that’s EXACTLY what’s going on here. They take very little time – the rolling and coating is the hardest part, honestly – and they’re always a showstopper. I always get lots of requests for these around the holidays.

Mexicorn Dip via Pinterest – Admittedly, I haven’t tried this exact recipe before, but I’ve tried a variation on it that is so revered in our Book Club circle, we called it Teddie’s Dip because that’s who brought it and we rejoiced every time she did. She always swore by how quick and easy it was, but we really couldn’t hear her talking over the feeding frenzy happening in the dip. Our family does a Christmas Eve Buffet every year, and I may be bringing this as a contribution. (We have random things.)

What’s the eating tradition at your holiday feast? Do you have weird things that you bring? Do y’all eat shrimp log shaped like a giant shrimp with eyes of olives, or is that just us?

Here's where I am!

That dip looks so yummy. My aunt makes a white corn jalapeno dip and we all go crazy for it.

We do Christmas appetizers on Christmas Eve as our tradition. We always have drunken weenies and/or meatballs. It’s basically grape jelly and yellow mustard over little weenies/meatballs. ALWAYS A HIT with the family!!
