IT’S OBAMA DAY!

Okay, so I say that, but in reality, it’s bigger than just one man.  It’s not just the fact that we’re swearing in our first non-white president, although HOW FREAKIN’ COOL IS THAT?, it’s more the fact that a change is coming.  A change, people.

I was irritated last night over some stupid crap and Bryan was flipping through the channels and we landed on the Kids Inaugural Ball.  And we watched the first family ROCK OUT, not caring about establishment or society or anything like that.  They lost their shit over the Jonas Brothers.  You know, like normal people.

Michelle Obama is such an educated, classy lady that she is an amazing figure to idolize.  It’s been awhile since we’ve had such a dynamic and powerful first lady.  More importantly, this administration seems to respect women’s rights.

Like I said, I think it’s bigger than one man.  I feel like our country is now poised to make some amazing changes to better ourselves.  I cannot wait for that opportunity, and I’m more optimistic about letting my child grow up within this village now.

Regardless of whom you voted for, you have to admit that today is pretty damn cool.

Today IS really a cool day… I love watching and learning about all the traditions surrounding this process. I have never really paid attention before, and I love all the historical details I’m learning.

You are correct that today is pretty cool, if not for the event itself, but also for the bevvy of Americans who are witnessing their first inauguration, even though they’ve been alive for several. Like the above poster, the historical details are fascinating and maybe that will spark her and others to increase their knowledge in the American heritage. That’s a win-win all the way around!

I think the most amazing thing is that people have a renewed interest in our democracy, and are for the first time in a long time, excited to participate in it and be a part of it. For so many years, we’ve been lazy and complacent and through the previous administration, we have had NO voice in what is said or done.

The most powerful thing that Obama has said throughout his campaign imho (regardless of whether he actually follows through or not) is “I promise to always listen to you, especially when we disagree”. I think that is a particularly powerful statement and is a shining example of the difference we can hope to see between the two administrations.
