Some Happy Things

I’m sorry if these posts annoy you, my lovely reader, but quite frankly, I love them.  I love reading what other people have bought and what they thought about it because sometimes, I need to be the sheep who takes other people’s words on how a product performs.  And so I give you: A LIST OF SHIT I HAVE BOUGHT RECENTLY.

Y’all, I am a Smashbox convert, for reals.  While I still use Philosophy for most of my skin care, I’ve become a diehard fanatic of Smashbox makeup.  I’ve found that using this moisturizer in the morning is better than any foundation I’ve tried.  I use the Luminous shade, cause I’m translucent and whatnot, and it’s been fabulous.  Whether I’ve got a 12 hour day at the office ahead or we’re running errands on weekends, this is my go-to for looking well-rested.

The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil line is SO FABOO.  I was lucky enough to score a sample pack of five shades, but I really really really fell in love with Stash, which is the color of my eyes plus flecks of gold glimmer.  The pencil is so creamy it’s almost more of a crayon, and the glimmer is very subtle.

Back when I was rich, before Binja sprang from my nu-nu, I used Aveda’s Root Booster spray.  Which was nice, but really?  Eh.  Then I found the cheapo counterpart, Tressume’s Root Booster spray.  It was, like, $2 or something insane.  But I went last night to pick some up and OHMYGODJESUSNO, they don’t make it anymore.  So I grabbed this insteaad.  And guys?  MY HAIR IS CRAZY BIG TODAY.  It’s not as kind on the hair as Tressume, but my Lord, if you want to have Dallas hair, this will give it to you.

This is not a NEW purchase, per se, as anyone who frequents my house knows.  But I’m including this because it really has changed our household, and so that you know that I’m NOT JUST a beauty-product whore.  This calendar comes completely blank, so you don’t feel slighted if you don’t pick it up till March.. you still get 12 full months of use.  The stickers are removable, so if an appointment changes, you don’t have to mark something out. (I am too OCD for marking something out.  It makes my calendar ugly to have strike-thrus.) And you can easily fit three or four stickers into a single day.  We’ve color coded our stickers by person, but it makes sense to also do them according to a sports schedule, bills due, or tv shows to watch.  LOVE THIS CALENDAR.

This thing makes me SO HAPPY every time I use it!  And no, it’s not a sex toy!  This is a handheld garlic chopper.  I use fresh garlic in everything, but I hate chopping it.  Mainly because I end up bleeding.   This makes it all awesome!  I throw in two cloves, roll it around on my countertop, and VOILA! finely diced garlic.  Easy to clean, easy to use, easy to love.  I adore this and love that it saves me time.

Finally.. one thing that I’ll admit I’m dying to buy.

The Smooth-Away hair removal system.  Y’all, I may be a redhead with fair skin, but I have Italian Hair.  Which earns its capital letters.  That shit is coarse and quick.  My legs get a five o’clock shadow after I shaved that morning.  So the mere IDEA of having a way to remove hair without shaving elates me.  Of course, I’m open to opinions if anyone’s tried it.  Maybe this would be a good podcast?

I open the floor to you, my lovely readers.  What products have you bought recently that you loved?

Here's where I am!

Stay away from the Smooth Away!! I have dark, thick, fast growing dark hair and the product had the same appeal to me. So I tried it.

It was nasty! My stubble ripped through the pad but not before I ended up with something akin to rug burn on my legs. I think it might work for people with really thin hair but it is not the product for us.

I am right there with you on the man-hair thing, and nothing I’ve found works better than wax. =/ Lemme know if you have luck elsewhere

JUST ARRIVED HOME FROM ULTA (LOVE!) where I had shopped blissfully with my coupons. I got $60 worth of necessities for half off thanks to my own lady tendency… Ulta is great with the bargains. Fave buys: Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion with spf 15 and L’Oreal Bare Naturale Carbon Black Mascara – both are tried and true wonders for me!

    I love these posts!

The hair thing doesn’t actually “remove” your hair. Well, it didn’t for me. It kind of just makes it soft. SO not worth it.

    AND I NEED THAT CALENDAR!

I just started using the John Freida stuff for red hair and I LOVE it! My aunt surprised me at Christmas with a fabulous Philosophy Amazing Grace gift set. I love, love, love Philosophy (was using the Snickerdoodle and wanted to take a bite out of my arm I smelled so yummy!)

OK, I found some wrinkles around my eyes this morning and totally lost my shit. So, does anyone have any good preventative eye wrinkle solution? ALSO eye make up remover that you love?

I went to Target today just to find that calendar! OCD’ers unite! Also, those hair removal things don’t work for me and I’m blonde!

Some people have wayyyyy to much time on their hands. But at least they’re leaving theater alone for the moment as they concentrate on being beautiful at least on the outside.

  10. Bryan January 15, 2009 at 11:07 am #

Glad to hear you’re leaving theatre alone as well, Perky.

Reading people’s post just to be a bitch seems a better use of time than writing and producing crap and calling it Theatre.

Don’t you have a leak to fix? And to think I was going to offer free help after reading the review on your lighting…keep on burning those bridges.

While I agree Perky’s was a poor excuse to make money, Bryan, Y. Krap has a point here. EVERYONE uses a garlic chopper to make themselves beautiful, didn’t you know that??? I mean, DUH.

BTW, it IS A SHAME they had to ‘hustle’ money from Huntsville’s theatre-lovers at Christmas time with that Perky’s production. Really embarrassing stuff!
