The one thing about our new house that drives me crazy is our kitchen floor. First, let me just say, that it looks gorgeous. Truly. It is an amazing floor.
It is a faux-tile linoleum. Which, as anyone who listens to me bitch can tell you, DRIVES ME NUTS. If you’re gonna make it look like tile, why not just go ahead and tile it?
But what’s really odd? Is that you’re not supposed to use anything other than water to clean it.
No, seriously.
It’s some fancy-schmancy linoleum that is uber durable. Unless, obviously, you want to clean it. At which point it will disintegrate (maybe?).
We have three dogs, a cat, an infant, and half of an eight year old. And Bryan. Needless to say, we end up cleaning the kitchen floor pretty regularly. And although I never knew it before, I am learning that I very much want to SMELL the cleaning products before I’ll feel that the floor is clean.
Which led me to think about other smells that I’m picky about.
Potpourri and air freshners? Need to smell clean. Clean linen, citrus breeze, fresh air, spring rain, all that crap. OR have lavender in it. (My favorite FAVORITE candle is Yankee Candle’s Lemon Lavender. The best of both worlds.)
Are there smells you’re picky about?

I used to have a candle from Banana Republic that had the most amazing smell ever, it was limited edition and I was CRUSHED when it was gone (ok crushed maybe an over statement!) I kept the empty candle holder for a good year because you could still smell it…..That and Sweet Water “Method” pump soap from Target
(PS when you get a second read this http://strykerspeaks.wordpress.com/2008/07/10/oh-joy/ you’ll enjoy it)

Regarding the floor: I had one like that in my old apartment and not being able to get it to “look” clean drove me crazy. I was told warm water only too, but it wasn’t cutting it. My omnipotent fantastic Mema told me to use a little white vinegar with the warm water. Not a lot – I can found out the part ratio if you want me to, but I just kinda put a little more than a splash (highly technical measurement) in the bucket and was FAR more impressed with the results. Disclaimer: Try it on a little spot that’s not so noticeable first in case something bad happens, but it was successful for me. Also, Mema’s 87 so… well. You know.
And white vinegar smells awful so you’ll definitely need a candle in there afterwards!!

I just got a new car and I am crazy about new car scent. So much so that I refuse to put an air freshener in my car until the original new car scent (complete with leather) goes away. At that point, I will only purchase new car scent air fresheners for my car and convince myself that they smell the same.

I’m totally with you on the clean smelling things. I hate the fake smells of candles in Birthday Cake scent and stuff like that it just makes me shake my head and sneeze and do that two year old me-no-like face.
