How I plan to help the economy: DAYCARE.
On top of everything else that we’ve decided to undergo here as of late, we’re now in the time crunch of finding adequate daycare for Tony. We’ve been absolutely blessed thus far to have my mom watch him during the day, but now she’s being all needy with this “I need to go make money” crap. (I kid. She’s just highly sought after, and people pay her insane amounts of money for her talents.)
The thing is, it’s not like we’ve just been sitting on our thumbs. We’re on FOUR waiting lists. FOUR. Two of them, we’ve been on since Tony was just a fetus. Granted, one of them looks promising, but Jeebus, this is ridiculous. Why can’t I just sign my kid up somewhere?
I still have three more places to call, but then I think we’re just gonna have to bite the bullet and succumb to the one place that’s got an immediate opening. Why do they have an immediate opening, you might ask? Ah, that would be because you have to sell your liver to afford sending your child there. Both of them.
And here’s the killer.. the nail in the coffin, the pacifier at bedtime: you supply everything! You supply formula. You supply diapers. You pay a BOOK FEE. A BOOK FEE? REALLY?! My child is fascinated with an empty Canada Dry bottle and you want me to pay a book fee?!
Eh. I know this is an ancient gripe. People have been complaining about daycares as long as there’s been the movement for the moms to go back to work. It’s just frustrating as hell.
I wish I worked at one of those places that offers daycare. Our local hospital does that for its employees. Isn’t that the way to motivate your staff? We get a discount at a local preschool.. and when I say “preschool”, I mean they don’t accept children under three. So that doesn’t help.
I would totally just take the Binja with me to work, but he doesn’t have a security clearance. (I wish I was kidding, but I’ve talked to a mom who needed to run into her office to grab something, and they wouldn’t let her baby on campus. Security risk, those creepers.)
How much are nannies who need greencards?
In other news, we are one step closer to buying our house. As in, we signed eleventy nine thousand sheets of paper last night. Now we just have to find something we want to buy.
And pray that it comes with a nanny.

This may sound like the WORST assvise evah, but. My sister has in house care for her two kids (3 yrs and 20 months) and she found her on some babysitting website. She and her husband work from home so they can keep an eye out but still, she is fablous and they love her. Im pretty sure that its a nation wide site, if your .05% intrested I can get more info.

No assvice, just commiseration. We were on the waiting list for R’s new day care… FOR ONE YEAR. Seriously. We got on it in February 2007, they called us in February 2008 and WANTED HER TO START IMMEDIATELY ON MONDAY NO WE CAN’T WAIT. We didn’t want to just pull her out of our home day care that we loved, so we paid for two weeks of day care at both places, even though we were only using ONE. And it sucked. So you never know. It could be tomorrow.

I do feel for you and thank the stars that all I have is extended day (afterschool care) for one of my youngins now. Somehow, not sure exactly how, but somehow I made it through two children in full time daycare. Could be why I just now purchased a car and a nice little car payment, dunno. Best of wishes with the daycare situation!
