Since Mondays are usually crazy-hectic for me, and today promises to be no different, I wanted to post something to lift the gloom that I totally squashed upon here yesterday.
I’m really okay. Really. I just had a minature pity party all weekend that I could’ve (and should’ve) snapped out of all by myself, but I figured that may be the last time I have any reason to dedicate time and tears to myself for awhile. (Right? Cause it’s all happy when the baby gets here, right?) So I reveled in it.
My house is pretty clean. I spent two hours yesterday cleaning, so that’s really fine. And although, Mal, I typically am a HUGE fan of retail therapy, I don’t like being seen outside of the house. You can only hear “You’re HUGE” so many times in a day. (Not that it’s untrue.) Anyway, so I’m in a better place once I knocked the house out. (It’d be nice if it stayed that way, magically.)
I am, however, going to buy a book. And maybe some cross-stitching. That should help.
Anyway, if I can just get through today.. life will be better. Tuesdays are my work-at-home days, and my body SO needs that. I had to take a nap on Saturday just from taking a bath. Tell me that’s not the epitome of lazy.
Okay, so here’s a thought: what music should I have playing in the labor and delivery room? Everything I have is so girl-powery, which is fine in the gym, but Madonna’s “Human Nature” may not be appropriate in the delivery room. And there’s not a whole lot of songs devoted to sons.. save the Loggins and Messina standard, “Danny’s Song”, and that’s a bit too hippie for me. What, if anything, did you have playing? Or should I skip the entire thing and buy some whale song CD?

I’m glad you are out of your funk. I also had a pitty party weekend. Michael was at work all weekend and everytime I tried to do anything I hurt. I basically spent the weekend crying and watching Kids by the Dozen on TLC. What REALLY sucks is our house is a mess and all of our family is coming over here next Sunday for a shower. Everyone wanted to “host” one but didn’t want it at their house so Michael’s aunt called me and said “how about we just do it at your house so you don’t have to carry everything home.” So this week is going to be fun!
If I may….
Why is there music? I’m not being sarcastic, I genuinly don’t know. Is it meant to be to encourage you as you go through labor? Is it meant to soothe Tony? I say switch on whatever you think will best accompany your efforts without annoying the crap out of you whilst your in a lot of pain. The womb is very noisy, so I doubt that Tony will be anymore traumatized if he hears “Human Nature” versus Raffi.
I didn’t have music during my C-section (something about doctors concentrating while my uterus was sitting outside my body or something), and let me tell you, the whole experience was pretty cold and sterile. My advice - pick something you like, one type of music that energizes you and something else that makes you serene. I know now is bad, but let me tell you, you honestly won’t remember it. too much.
I typically like to have a soundtrack to stuff. I created and DJ’d my own wedding reception (I paid some guy to make sure the iPod kept running), and I have CDs for every mood I’m in. It just seemed fitting to have a playlist for the birth.
Of course, Michelle has a point.. if I end up having a c-section, the whole thing could be null and void.
I had Kenny Loggins’ “The House at Pooh Corner” playing, you know, kind of a lullabye to welcome my sweetie? Before that, I would just listen to music on the ipod. Or maybe “Born to Be Wild” ?
If you want baby lullaby stuff there is the whole rock-a-bye series, lullaby versions of The Beatles, The Eagles, Green Day.. The list goes on. There is also a fantastic collection of stuff at http://www.vitaminrecords.com. Sting quartet tributes and piano, and a few others. All of that is instrumental.

Was it the Nick Drake that did it? ‘Cause that’s some dark, chilly music. Hmm…. I probably shoulda burned you some Abba instead
Speaking of lullaby music, I need to burn you a CD of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Best lullaby music evah…
Guess HTML tags don’t work. That should have been:

Actually, no.. Nick Drake is one of those singers that I think is strongly introspective. It makes you stop and look inside, but you can only see what’s reflected there. I don’t think he’s depressing.. I find him extremely relaxing.
I’m intrigued by the mouthful that is Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
