I think there is this week-to-two-week period where you bounce back and forth between “I SO CANNOT WAIT TO HAVE THIS CHILD” and “OHGOD, THIS IS REALLY GOING TO HURT, ISN’T IT”. I’m there.
Walking around in Target last night, post-Red Robin gorging, I started having some contractions. At first, they were the typical tightening feeling. But by the end of the trip, they were hurting. Not consistent in time or strength, but painful.
I slept like crap. Woke up a LOT, feeling the need to move. So I walked around a bunch. (Freaked the animals out.. why is that human awake right now?) This morning, my groin is SORE. I thought that was odd, but now I wonder.. did I have contractions all night?
I visit the doc tomorrow for a checkup, but it was enough to make me pause and wonder.
My husband bought me a new robe for the hospital. It’s very fuzzy and bright pink and I lurve it. He also bought himself some pajama pants. They are gaudy and horrific and he lurves them. We will be styling.
We also came to realize that the nice lady who has shot The Boy’s sports portraits for the last few years is, indeed, a real photographer. And she does GREAT infant stuff. And her prices are incredibly reasonable. Check her out here.
I was totally against newborn portraits, because I think newborns are inheritantly ugly. (They just are! They look like E.T.) But then I realized that Tony will have PERFECT timing to be hung in a stocking, or decked in Christmas lights, or so many variations on my favorite holiday.. I don’t know that I can resist all of that temptation.
And that’s your Monday morning edition of blather from me.

Take the newborn pictures. I totally agree with you about the inherent ugliness of newborns. I remember thinking I would NOT think my baby was pretty because all newborns look like aliens, but I got caught up in the romance of the moment. Looking back on her newborn pictures, she was just as alienish as the rest of them. But she was MINE. And I am so glad I have those pictures because really? Taking pictures was not at the top of my to-do list when she was first born. Maybe it should have been, but it wasn’t.
I hope Jillian is born before Christmas, I really want to stick her in a stocking too!
Hope all is well today, I can’t wait to hear your report tomorrow! Have they started “checking” you yet? I’m curious to find out when they start doing that. I go the 14th for my next visit (I’ll be 33 weeks), I can’t believe will have been a month since I’ve been there.
Michelle - I will probably fold on the newborn pictures. I seriously do think they’re ugly, but I would hate not having anything to remember later. And again.. I’m a Christmas freak, so the idea of adding another decoration (a newborn.. perhaps in a manger?!) makes me happy.
Jamie - I’m not sure how tomorrow’s appointment is going to go. I had to reschedule and I have the doctor I don’t really care for now. I may just get in and get out to save my own sanity.
Sarah- I have the FULL santa suit…just sayin. Also, which doc don’t you like, cause the one I hated was just as good as our doctor with the checking, so relax:)
Jamie- My doctor didn’t start checking until 3 weeks out, but I went into labor a two weeks sooooo….
I emailed you his name, because he does practice around here.. and Lord forbid I be accused of ruining another “life” on the internet.
Newborns look like monkeys and yes, it probably will hurt, but they say that just like kidney stones you won’t remember the pain. Only, with kidney stones you get a residual supply of vicodin. Maybe you should have had a kidney stone instead of a baby.
(I’m totally kidding. Anyways, you can’t hang a kidney stone in a stocking. Someone might mistake it for coal.)
Cool “new” theme even if it’s now “old”. Aegwyn’s newborn pics definitely are lacking in the cutie dept but I’m glad I have ‘em and it’ll be nice to have the pics to show Aegwyn when she’s older.
That thing is me?
