So I’m still unable to open the dashboard in Internet Explorer. I took a brave step today and manually installed an upgrade to Wordpress 2.3, and honestly, I’m still proud of the job I did. But when I loaded it, I got an error message (after manually writing a wp-config.php), so I wrote to my server host.. who is supposed to offer support. I give you our email exchanges.
First email to support:
Hey there!
I’m trying to manually upgrade my Wordpress to 2.3 (which Fantastico didn’t seem to grab.. oddly enough). I thought I had it somewhat figured out, but I’m clearly lost.
I was, however, smart enough to back up my home directory before this, so all is not lost. Before I threw in the towel, however, I decided to ask for a little help.
I grabbed my MySQL info from what the control panel would show me, but I have NO clue what my database is. Where would I find that? I’ve written my own wp-config.php and I thought it was included in there.. but I may have made that up. And can you glance at my stuff and see if there’s any glaring errors that I’m obviously overlooking?
Thanks so much!
Sarah Brown

Second Email/First response:
Hi,
You can get the datbase from the configuration file of WordPress. Please check wp-config.php file
Thank you for choosing Hosting.
My response:
Actually, a more detailed error message has shown that it’s having trouble connecting to the database that I supplied. What is the correct database?
Attached, you’ll find my wp-config.php file so you can see what I’ve given them.
His response:
Hi,
Is the current installation at http://www.theanviltree.com/wordpress/ ?
Thank you for choosing Hosting.
My response:
I don’t suppose there’s anyway you can “peer” in there, huh?
If I log into my Control Panel, the pathway to the Wordpress folder is:
www.theanviltree.com/public_html/wordpress
His (infuriating) response:
Hi,
WordPress configuration is showing that the database associated is ******_wp1, but I am not able to find this database on your account. Can you please verify whether you have upgraded the database as well.
Thank you for choosing Hosting.
My (curt) response:
I have not touched anything even called database. I’m not even sure where my database IS. Now we’re getting to the problem I originally thought I had .. it’s not able to connect to my database, and I don’t know how to correct that. Thoughts?
His (final) response:
Hi,
You’ll need to upgrade the database also when upgrading WordPress and it should be on the upgrade process, but it seems that the upgrade process didn’t upgraded the database and it is a total mess now. It is better to restore Word Press from the backup.
Thank you for choosing Hosting.

Now, obviously, I removed the name of the company because I haven’t really had an issue with them OTHER than this. But other than that, those are pretty much copied and pasted. What kind of support IS that?
Other news: when you’re pregnant, you learn how incredibly short your arms are.
