I have repeatedly tried to avoid discussing this on an open forum, because it’s not exactly flattering to my husband, but he TOTALLY brought the gauntlet a few weeks back on his site.
See, about a month ago, we hit a new snag in our marriage: Bryan began snoring. And not just a little. Like, a LOT. Loudly.Â
In his defense, Bryan has NEVER made a peep while sleeping, other than when he has nightmare. And I remember one night, where he timidly shook me and whispered ever so sweetly, “Honey, you’re.. you’re snoring.“Â
But whatever the reason, now he routinely saws logs. It’s a given that most nights, I will change beds around 12 or 1. I will go crawl into our guest bed with the cats until the sun peaks through the crappy shades.Â
This is not such a huge thing NOW, because I’m just going to start exclusively sleeping in the other room (versus being jolted awake every night), but my concern is this week, when we go on vacation.
We’ll be in the same room. I can’t leave.
I know that we can’t be the only couple that has this issue, so I ask you guys: what do you do to sleep? Do you have a home remedy for snoring that we could try? Or do you have a way to sleep through the noise? (I’ve already tried earplugs. Didn’t work.) I’m willing to hear any ideas..

BreatheRight stips. They work. Every. Time.
Don’t get the clear ones. They suck.
You’ll thank me.
I used to snore really bad, but after my septoplasty, Julie’s only complained of me snoring about twice in the last year. Now, she can by-God saw some logs, but I’ve just gotten used to it. She sleeps so hard, though, I can shake her, and it’ll stop long enough for me to get back to sleep.
Waterpail – surgery might make the list fairly soon.
And I’m not saying I don’t snore.. cause I’m asleep and don’t know if I do or not.
Tee – WE TRIED THEM! We also tried the throat spray, and just plain ole Benadryl. Now, admittedly, I don’t know how long the strips stayed on.. they annoy Bryan.. so maybe we should try wearing them more fastidiously. (And by we.. I mean him.)
Have I mentioned I work for a sleep doctor? hehe
Seriously if you tried something to get him to stay on his side while sleeping he would probably not snore as bad…. But, why is he snoring all the sudden??? There are medical disorders out there linked to snoring, OSA for one. Maybe with the marriage so recent and the fact that we like to put on those “happy pounds” around these times in our lives could be a reason. A person could gain just 5 lbs and develop what we call sleep apnea and start snoring. So something to think on. Let me know if you want me to make an appt for him
And honestly, I have never heard of a single home remedy or OTC solution that works for everyone. Some work for people and most don’t.
Hmm.. didn’t know I had an “in” in the sleep clinic. We will consider that as an option. (And by we, I mean me.)
There could be many reasons it started suddenly. I know that he’s worried already that he’s gonna gain some “sympathy weight” as I progress through the pregnancy. (Although he hasn’t.) Still, we’re not as active as we’ve been previously, so maybe that’s something to think about.
Girl…make sure you buy ear plugs with the highest rated NRR (Noise Reduction Rating). I think I have some that are 31 or 32. They work really well. When I wear them I don’t hear my alarm in the morning (which wakes my husband up and makes me happy!). When my husband is really on a roll though, nothing works. I move to the guest bedroom.
I use the “slap” method. Everytime the snoring gets loud, I give a quick slap on his shoulder or back or whatever body part I can reach. This way, he stops and rolls over.
