“I know a man who gave up smoking, drinking, sex, and rich food.
He was healthy right up to the day he killed himself.”
- Johnny Carson
It feels like a Monday.
I had a completely lazy weekend. I have decided that I love not being in a show. Especially when I have found other ways of exploring my creative sides that aren’t so incredibly time consuming. This is the life.
Bryan is still under the weather. I feel bad for him. I guess I lucked out and the cold didn’t like me; I was over it in a matter of days. He’s been suffering from it for almost a week now. I think we are single-handedly keeping Sudafed and Benadryl in business. And he’s tired of being sick, so he keeps trying to be better.. but, God love him, he’s just not.
We made it out of the house to see “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning” on Saturday. I caught a special on Bravo earlier in the day that listed the scariest moments in movies, so I was craving a horror/slasher flick. This movie delivered. It starred the imitable R. Lee Ermey, who makes the most dynamic villain. It also contained some very clever dialogue and fantastic gore.
I think that Bryan would have grounds for divorce if he ever counted up the number of slasher movies I’ve made him sit through. I thought about that on Saturday. I know not everyone can enjoy those movies the way I do. While other people sit there and twitch and become nauseated, I ponder what sound effect the gaffer uses to successfully portray someone’s face being peeled from their skull. Would you skin a chicken? Or would you just push some jello through a mold? Either way, while scary movies are a source of entertainment and fascination for me, I am lucky enough that Bryan can put his brain on hold for about 1.5 hours when I force him to.
Soon, Saw III comes out. Now THAT has me excited.
And I finally put Hostel on our Netflix. I had actually been avoiding it, because Quentin Tarantino is the one director who can creep me out, but the movie earned the #1 scariest moment. So I HAVE to see it now.
We also watched Sin City this weekend, which I loved. I know it got horrible reviews and people walked out because of the violence (pshaw, I say to them.. this was NOTHING), but I thought it was a fan-friggin-tastic movie. Any movie that uses the line “my warrior woman” more than TWICE is amazing, in my book.
I also spent a portion of this weekend up at the Civic Center, polishing some Wings Awards stuff. I have to say, in all humility, that I have never had the pleasure of working with Mr. Z in such close quarters before, but the man is talented as all-get-out. Wait, I take that back. We actually did The Civil War together some odd years ago, but we were never on stage at the same time. Either way, he is so good at what he does. I always feel a bit more talented after having worked with him, as if some of his genious rubs off. I know that I’m usually quick to bitch and moan about arts in this town, so I wanted to share the good where I found it.
And that, folks, is your Monday post.
